Would you like to join the Wymering Manor Trust? Are you passionate about local heritage and the role it can play in enriching its local communities. We are looking for new trustees to help us restore Portsmouth’s Elizabethan gem.
Our vision is to see the Wymering Manor as a site of repair, care and creativity.
A space for the local community to thrive, learn, exchange skills and ideas, to work, be inspired, to celebrate, meet, perform, to grow, to nurture and nourish.
Our mission is to repair and care for the house and to promote Wymering Manor as a rich cultural and educational site in the north of the city. To develop the house as a space for people to learn soft heritage skills, hire rooms, come together and connect. So that the house will become a centre for the local community, offering help in wellbeing, tackling loneliness and isolation.
We are currently in the process of applying for funds to improve the Manor’s viability and sustainability. We are creating a community café and meeting rooms – for business and community use. To facilitate these funds, we have a GoFundMe account and are looking to find creative ways to raise these monies. We also need to raise funds to repair and stabilise the building – funds to stop water ingress and to repair its timber frame.
We aim to share and enthuse others in the historical significance and stories of the Manor.
To make our plans a reality, we are seeking new trustees who recognise the contemporary role of heritage places, spaces and culture. We are particularly interested in applications from people with specific expertise or experience in any of the following:
· historic building conservation practice
· fundraising, locally, regionally and UK wide
· Human resources, communications and marketing (website support, and social media)
· commercial and/or property legal experience.
Trustees meet once a month on a Wednesday evening (6.30-8.30) and attend bi monthly meetings with volunteers.
