Ship's Plaques Volunteer

The role is part of the Visitor Operations team at Portsmouth Historic Quarter, based in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. Here at PHQ, we have a unique collection of ship plaques from which we produce replicas in-house to sell to our visitors in Boathouse 4.

You will be part of a growing team of volunteers engaged in the production process of a rage of ship's plaques.

Tasks will vary but will include:


- Hand painting pre-cast mouldings in detail

- Wood finishing - applying stains and varnish to wooden plaque backings

- Applying felt backing to the back of wooden plaques

- Mounting the finished crests onto hardwood backs

- Maintaining an orderly and tidy workshop

- Adhering to all Health & Safety regulations and requirements in the workshop and ensuring that faults are reported to the Shipwright & Workshop Manager

- Maintaining excellent standards of site and personal presentation at all times

Skills

- Minimum 18 years of age

- Be a passionate ambassador for Portsmouth Historic Quarter and the Dockyard

- Fine motor skills

- Interest in Admiralty Ships Badges or an enthusiasm to learn
