Porter's Garden Volunteers

This role is part of the Visitor Operations Team at Portsmouth Historic Quarter, based in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. Built in 1711, the dockyard wall outlines the Porter's Garden. Our garden volunteer team support the upkeep and maintenance of this historic garden, contributing to its preservation and enhancing the visitor experience.

You'll help to secure the future of this historic garden throughout the year as part of a dedicated volunteer team. Enabling our visitors to enjoy this historical, educational and recreational area of Porters Garden. 

Tasks will vary but include:

- Planting, pruning, sowing seeds, weeding, digging, ground clearance and grass cutting, watering and litter picking

- Ensuring the garden is well presented, adhering to safety and security procedures, and maintaining a good working relationship with staff and other volunteers

- Become knowledgeable about the gardens history and sharing this history with visitors

- Attend the quarterly planning meeting of the Porter's Garden Volunteer Team

- Supporting visitors by responding to enquiries and feedback

- Ensuring visitors remaim safe during their visit, by following our safety and security procedures

Passing on any visitor feedback to staff

- Maintaining excellent standards of site and personal presentation at all times
