The COVID pandemic highlighted the need for many communities to be better prepared in the event of significant disruption to normal life from causes often outside our control.
We need to create a bank of volunteers that may be able to help out during any potential emergencies. These could be but not limited to:
- Local flooding
- Major heat waves
- Major outbursts of an infectious disease (such as COVID)
- Low temperatures and/or snow
- Major storms and gales
- Extended loss of electricity supply
These rare occasions may provide a range of vital duties that volunteers can fullfil such as:
- office administration
- telephoning people
- delivering leaflets
- transporting vulnerable people
- helping out in Care homes
- supporting local hospitals
There really are lots of jobs to do to make sure we can deal with and recover from emergencies efficiently and in the shortest possible time.
Your details will be added to our email list and we will contact you through email when an opportunity comes available. There is no requirement for you help out when the time comes. These emergencies are rare occurrences so it isn't expected volunteers to be regularly called upon. It is however, reassuring to know that support is there if it is required.
