Local Recycling & Donation Researcher Volunteer

Where Home Based with potential to visit local Portsmouth areas, but no obligation to.

When At a time that suits you. You can fit this in around your other commitments.

Minimum commitment Roughly 6 hours a month

Duration On-going but no expectation to volunteer throughout.

What will you be doing? Help your local community by identifying and compiling locations where people can donate or recycle items such as clothing, electronics, furniture, rubbish etc. This information will be shared with local residents to promote sustainability and reduce waste.

You’ll be based at home and using the internet will do some more detailed research into what is available in the local area. Reading up on websites and reading through social media sites you’ll research what is available in the area. If needed, but no obligation to, you could also visit the local charity shops, supermarkets, community centres etc to pick up information in person. You’ll prepare a short summary of your findings on a word document.

-          Research local organisations, businesses, and facilities that accept donations or offer recycling services.

-          Verify what items each location accepts (e.g., clothes, electronics, furniture, hazardous materials).

-          Collect details such as:

o   Addresses and contact information

o   Hours of operation

o   Any restrictions or requirements (e.g., condition of items, appointment needed)

o   Organise findings into a clear list for community use.

Your work will make it easier for community members to donate and recycle, reducing landfill waste and supporting local charities.

We’re looking for someone who is happy to work at home with minimal supervision to support the rest of the volunteer team to research the area using the internet with potential for visiting some areas of Portsmouth if needed (but no obligation to do the visits).
