Being part of a 4/5 person team of Hosts at a weekly Community Meal for Food Cycle. The meal takes place on a Wednesday at the John Pound Community Centre on Queen Street in Portsmouth.
As part of the team you’ll:
- Set up the dining room and set the tables prior to the guest’s arrival
- Preparing hot and cold drinks and writing a menu board as well as displaying information about the project
- Greeting the guests and serving drinks and biscuits before seating them Serving 3 courses to each guest and often giving take out boxes of excess food
- Equally important is social interaction with the guests
- Often providing a non judgmental listening ear to people from all walks of life is very important
- Clearing the dining area and helping with the dishes occurs at the end of the session
You are given a free meal and encouraged to join the guests to eat

FoodCycle Portsmouth runs volunteer-powered community meals, reducing food poverty & social isolation by serving tasty, nutritious meals to vulnerable people. Nationally, our incredible volunteers have served +125,000 meals made using over 146,000kg of surplus food.

Skills
- Interpersonal communication is essential
- A calm understand demeanor is required
- You will work as a team with a Lead helping at all times
- You will never be expected to handle any situation in isolation
- A mature attitude with an easy going personality is a great fit
- Our guests are from all walks of life and are always happy to see our teams
- Before the volunteering session you will need to complete a 10min training video and quick quiz
