The Education department welcomes many schools and hundreds of young people to the Cathedral each year. It provides a variety of curriculum-linked education workshops and activities for primary and secondary pupils.
Core Tasks
• To assist with preparing resources for school activities - may involve all or a combination of: Designing craft activities, Photocopying, Cutting out, Collating worksheets
• Arranging displays
• Designing workshop ideas and resources
• To assist in setting up activities
• To welcome teaching staff and children
• To support children in taking part in the workshops and activities
• To demonstrate craft activities
• Assist with the development of new resources
• To assist in putting things away and clearing up
Will I be planning and assisting with physical or intellectual activities? Generally our Education Officer plans the activities which are based on the history and architecture of the building or on a particular aspect of the Christian calendar or history. Activities are usually investigative and paper based, or artistic. Involvement in the planning of activities would be possible through the Education officer. They are not physical but I suppose there is a possibility of a dance or drama based activity but it is the volunteer role to support the children along side the Education officer and the schools teaching staff.
