Volunteer Knitters - one off

We are looking for keen knitters who would be happy to Knit Rabbits and Penguins for us. We send these out to children to accompany two books we have commissioned which help the children understand the long separations from a parent that they can experience in a Naval family.

As well as knitting for us we would love it if you could spread the word around other knitters / groups as demand for the books and therefore the knitted Rabbits and Penguins is high.

Our new campaign is all about helping those children cope with long parental absences. This is particularly important because children perceive time as moving more slowly than adults making any absence feel much longer for a child than for an adult.

That’s why we commissioned Zoe and the Time Rabbit – an original work of children’s literature written and illustrated for the Naval Children’s Charity by Sarah McMenemy. The story follows Zoe and her emotions when her father has to go away and the help she gets from a magical time rabbit. The book is intended to help any family where a parental figure might be away for an extended period. Henry and the Time Penguin follows Henry when his mum is deployed.

We help around 2000 children directly each year and many thousands more through our resources and work with communities and other organisations.
