Trustee - Safeguarding Lead

We are looking for a Trustee with safeguarding responsibilities, who will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety, well-being, and protection of all individuals that engage with Groundlings Theatre Trust.

Based within a unique Grade II* listed building in Portsmouth, the Trust runs a drama school and theatre, alongside a volunteer and outreach programme that provides opportunities for our local community to connect and learn new skills in a safe and unprejudiced environment.

As a Trustee with safeguarding responsibilities, you will champion understanding and adherence of safeguarding across the Trustee Board and team, leading on our efforts to maintain, evaluate and review effective safeguarding policies, procedures and practices, while overseeing the implementation throughout the organisation.

We are looking for someone with good communication and interpersonal skills, experience in safeguarding principles, particularly with children, and preferably a passion in the arts and drama.

This a voluntary position with the Board currently meeting monthly with a commit to a few hours between meetings to take on governance-related tasks as required. The charity is based in Portsmouth and, while we would prefer to have someone based locally, we are open to remote working for the right candidate with specialist skills that can also commit to visiting onsite throughout the year.

We are always interested in increasing the diversity of our Board, so we are particularly keen to recruit individuals from all areas of the community.

About the organisation

We are a not for profit Theatre with 70% of our productions all in-house. We have no backing from any business or council so we rely on mainly volunteers to help keep this historic grade ii listed building functioning as a theatre which was once a school
