As a Collection Box Coordinator, you will be involved in displaying our iconic collection boxes in your local community to help raise funds for Guide Dogs. This is a community-based role where you look for places to display our collection boxes, liaising with local businesses to encourage them to display the boxes, emptying and banking the funds from the collection boxes and generally being an ambassador for Guide Dogs. You will have a dedicated volunteer manager as well as peers from the local Community Fundraising Group who will support you throughout your role.
Duties include:
• Identifying and placing collection boxes in suitable locations and moving them when needed.
• Keeping track of where your boxes are located.
• Emptying boxes every 3 to 6 months and banking the income.
• Talking to people about how the boxes support Guide Dogs.
• Thanking venues for agreeing to have boxes placed and for the donations received as a result.
Volunteering is a two-way street, so in return for your time you will get a dedicated volunteer manager/key contact who will help you settle in and support you during your time with us.
You’ll also get:
• A flexible role that is manageable around current time commitments
• The satisfaction knowing you are supporting people with sight loss to live actively, independently, and well.
• An opportunity to interact with others, including people in Guide Dogs and the general public.
• Training and support
This role has 1 hour of training and then you’ll be ready to go!
If you have questions about the training requirements, we can answer these at your interview along with any other support or accessibility needs you may have.
Volunteering for Guide Dogs should never leave you out of pocket. We’ll make sure we pay any expenses related to your volunteering with us in line with our policy.
“By volunteering for Guide Dogs, I find that the public have many questions and I love being able to answer these. Through setting out the boxes and other volunteering roles, I have met lots of new people and always seem to be “on the go!” – Lena, Collection Box Coordinator.
