Mary Rose Academy is a special school for pupils aged 2-19 years, situated across three sites in Portsmouth. We provide a highly specialist, personalised curriculum for young people with the most profound, severe, and complex learning difficulties. The school requires an experienced Co-opted Governor to join the Academy Committee as Chair of the Committee.
Mary Rose Academy Committee is currently seeking an experienced Co-opted Governor, with a range of professional knowledge including education, finance, human resources, legal, marketing, and public relations, property and estates management and organisational change.
As a Governor you will be able to:
• Use your own experience of education and life beyond school to inform conversations
• Develop and use your skills in a board-level environment
• Make a valuable contribution to education and your community
• Support and challenge the school so that it improves for pupils and staff
• Bring your unique experiences, perspectives, and insights into decision-making in the interests of the school community.
Governors monitor and evaluate the progress of the school and function as a source of challenge and support to the Principal.
This means.
• Engaging with pupils, staff, parents, and the school community
• Addressing a range of education issues within the school including disadvantaged pupils, pupils with special needs, staff workload and teacher recruitment
• Looking at data and evidence to ask questions and have challenging conversations about the school
Mary Rose Academy Committee typically meet six times a year as well as make school visits. Governors meet either during the day or early evening.
We do undertake a DBS check for all Governors, this process is supported.
