LCT 7074 is the last remaining Landing Craft Tank which took part in The D-Day landings. Following a restoration funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the ship now forms an integral part of a visit to The D-Day Story. As a volunteer on LCT 7074, you will play an important role in delivering the visitor experience on board.
Working alongside our Museum and Visitor Services Officers you will ensure smooth day to day running of the landing craft, engage with members of the public and deliver exceptional customer service. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a truly historic visitor attraction.

What’s involved?
• As an LCT 7074 volunteer, you will be based outdoors on the ship itself.
• Respond to enquiries from visitors and members of the public relating to the Landing Craft and The D-Day Story.
• Be the public face of the ship and the museum, providing a warm and friendly welcome to all our visitors in line with our customer charter and Happy Museums programme.
• Proactively approach and engage visitors on the ship.
• You may also be asked to assist with any events that might take place on board.
• Promote The D-Day Story, LCT 7074 and other Portsmouth City Museums to our visitors.
• Follow health and safety procedures, helping to ensuring you and our visitors are safe.
• You may be asked to assist with other duties, such as cleaning and conservation related tasks.
• Support new initiatives that further enhance the visitor experience at the museum and on the landing craft.

Skills
This role will suit people who have a friendly and enthusiastic manner and enjoy engaging with visitors. Previous experience in public-facing positions or knowledge of D-Day and World War 2 would be advantageous but is not necessary as you will be supported by the Museum Officers and staff throughout your time with us.
Please be aware that this role can be physically demanding, and you may be on your feet for around two to three hours at a time, breaks will be provided throughout in relation to length of daily commitment. The Landing Craft is outdoors and is open in all weather, you will be based under a canopy but may be exposed to rain and wind; however, suitable uniform will be provided.

Availability Details
Open 10:00-13:00 and 13:00-16:00 Everyday of the week Half (morning or afternoon) or full days, ideally at least once per week or at a minimum once per month. Half days usually consist of a 3-hour time commitment, full days usually consist of a 6-hour commitment.
