The Independence and Wellbeing Team is part of Portsmouth City Council Adult Social Care. We support adults to stay independent in the community and improve their wellbeing.
The Independence and Wellbeing Team runs a social club, "Diversi-Tea Lounge" for adults to prevent loneliness and isolation and provide a space for people to socialise and get information about services. The group runs on a weekly basis in a local community centre. At the group meetings, there is time to have a tea, coffee and a chat and we usually have guest speakers attend from different organisations to provide information about their services.
Tasks of the volunteer group coordinator include:
- Coordinate group activities such as inviting speakers, putting the programme together etc.
- Set up the room for the group & tidy up afterwards
- Group facilitation: make participants feel welcome, participants register, introduce speaker etc.
- Liaise with community centre about room bookings and set up etc.
- Work with community development officer in Independence and Wellbeing team to coordinate and develop the group
Skills
- Very good communication and interpersonal skills
- Good organisational skills
- Intercultural competence, ability to relate to people from different cultures
- Ability to set up the room and tidy away afterwards (able to move table/chairs)

Availability Details
We are looking for a volunteer coordinator who can run the group on a Tuesday from 12:15-14:45 (these times include set up and tidy up). You should be available at least every second week. There is some additional time required for the organisation of the group outside these hours. There is the possibility to job-share this role with other volunteers.
