Help keep Butser Ancient Farm welcoming, safe, and well-presented for the many visitors who come to explore our site throughout the year. As a volunteer, you’ll play an important role in the day-to-day upkeep of the farm, supporting practical tasks that help everything run smoothly.
Activities may include repairing and maintaining traditional wattling fences, restocking wood stores, preparing the site for events and workshops, and assisting with general maintenance around the farm. Tasks vary depending on the season and current projects, so there’s always something new to get involved in.
This is a hands-on role, ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, being part of a team, and contributing to a unique historic environment. Your support helps us ensure the farm is always presented to a high standard for our visitors, making their experience both enjoyable and memorable.
About the organisation
Butser Ancient Farm is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company with a focus on education and research.
The buildings at the farm are all based on evidence from archaeological excavations, and we test theories about the technologies, building techniques and ways of life of ancient people by reconstructing elements of their homes and lives. This helps us to better understand, educate about and learn from the past. We welcome the public and educational groups to the farm year-round, with special events and workshops connecting people to our ancient past in a hands on and fun way.
