A Safeguarding Officer is a Non Uniformed role within the Nautical Training Corps required to undertake a role key to the protection of young people and vulnerable adults within our organisation.
The Nautical Training Corps is currently undertaking some significant work in enhancing its policy, rules and procedures and as part of that process. Looking to identify a number of volunteers independent to the organisation to assist with the Safeguarding Process.
We are looking ideally for individuals with no prior connection to the organisation or its beneficiaries, but with some experience in safeguarding, auditing or investigations (HR, POLICE, Regulated Environments). Within the Nautical Training Corps (NTC), we have a safeguarding Lead, who is a trustee of the national charity (Member of the National Council), with delegation to provide strategic direction to the National Safeguarding Team. Enabling the National Council (Board of Trustees) to ensure that they are proportionately aware of a critical area of the charities operation.
The NTC have a Safeguarding Manager, responsible for the day to day management of the Safeguarding Team and its workload. The team has a senior uniformed officer to utilise in review, advice and guidance of cases. Who will usually hold a senior support role within the wider organisation, and would therefore not be within the direct line management of those who may face allegations or complaints.
We are now looking to identify a number of volunteers to assist us as regional safeguarding officers. These volunteers will be assigned a region (Not normally in the area in which they are situated) who will be the first point of contact for safeguarding queries, or allegations within their region. Training will be provided by the organisation, as well as through external and statutory organisations. The ideal candidate will already have operated in a multi agency environment and will be comfortable dealing with and recording complex information as part of an investigative process. Although this is not essential, as volunteers will be given support advice and guidance throughout their volunteering journey. This volunteer role will typically involve occasional travel (expenses covered) with occasional meetings (Generally virtual) throughout the month.
