About us
Loaves of Love is a Portsmouth community project supporting marginalised women through the joy of baking. Our free baking classes bring women together in a welcoming and supportive environment, helping them build confidence, learn practical skills and feel part of their local community.

Who are we looking for?
We're looking for friendly, enthusiastic volunteers to join our kitchen team and support our volunteer Chefs during our baking classes.

Our classes take place on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month, from 1.30pm to 4.30pm. You don't need to be available for every class - you can volunteer according to your availability.

As a Kitchen Assistant, you will:

• Help set up the class, making sure participants have the ingredients, equipment and materials they need.
• Support participants during the baking session, helping them follow the recipes and making sure everyone feels included and supported.
• Work alongside the Chef and other volunteers to keep the session running smoothly.
• Clean as you go and help tidy the kitchen at the end of the class.
• Help create a friendly, welcoming and relaxed atmosphere where everyone can enjoy learning and baking together.
• Some of our participants may have limited English, so patience, kindness and clear communication are particularly important.

And then comes the best part! Once the baking is done, we all sit down together to enjoy what we've made, have a lovely cuppa and chat. It's a great opportunity to share some laughs, meet new people and celebrate what we've achieved together.

Loaves of Love was created out of a wish to help and support women asylum seekers and refugees in our local community. We bring women together through the medium of baking bread to help them feel welcome and valued in the community.

Skills

You don't need previous kitchen or volunteering experience.

We're looking for people who are:

• Kind, patient and compassionate.
• Friendly and able to communicate clearly.
• Good team players who are happy to work alongside others.
• Organised and willing to get stuck in.
• Flexible and able to help solve problems as they arise.
• Enthusiastic and positive.
• Attentive to detail and happy to help keep the kitchen clean and organised.
• Most importantly, we're looking for people who enjoy being around others and would like to make a positive difference in their local community.

When do we need you? 

Our classes run on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month, from 1.30pm to 4.30pm.

You can volunteer for as many or as few sessions as your availability allows.
