Chair of Governors

We are looking for individuals with a commitment to improving outcomes for children and young people by becoming a Chair of Governors at one of our Portsmouth schools. The appointment might be with immediate effect, or following a period shadowing the current Chair. The role of Chair of Governors is a challenging but hugely rewarding one, providing the opportunity to lead the governing body and offer support and challenge to the head teacher to improve outcomes for Portsmouth children. In addition to Chairing the meetings the Chair of Governors will also need to read paperwork and plan for the meetings, visit the school, and be available to liaise with the head teacher on a reasonably regular basis.

Skills

Schools need and benefit from a wide range of professional experience on their governing boards. For the chair we would be seeking someone with significant experience on a governing body or similar governing structure (e.g. Board level) and who can demonstrate a good lay-person's understanding of education.
