The Solent MS Therapy Centre offers Oxygen Therapy, Physiotherapy and a wide range of Complementary Therapies to help people with Multiple Sclerosis and other neurological conditions, illnesses & injuries. We are looking for someone who can commit to Volunteering at the Centre on a Thursday morning on an ongoing basis.
Outline of the Role:
To be very welcoming to all clients and members arriving for their therapies, including their Oxygen Session in the Barochamber. You will operate the Oxygen Barochamber for the duration of your time in the MS Centre, keeping the sessions to the times allocated, cleaning and preparing equipment in between sessions. Full training will be given and annual refresher training sessions are held at the Centre. Please note: There will always be a member of staff in the Centre to support you.
Main Duties:
• Arrive promptly for the start of your Volunteering session, to ensure the daily schedule is kept to timetable
• Report in advance by telephone or e mail where possible, to the Centre staff members if you are unable to attend your volunteering session
• Ensure that the operating station is clean and ready for your session, with tubes and any items required (if not already)
• Check the members that are due for your session and start completion of the recording sheet once they have arrived in the Centre
• Assist anyone that requires help, using the wheelchair ramp where necessary
• Once everyone is inside the chamber, check if they require assistance with tubes or fitting masks
• Check that the valves for the oxygen stations being used are open and ones not being used are off
• Check that masks are fitted correctly and all occupants can breathe correctly
• Check that everyone is well and begin the session, following the instructions provided
• Make notes on the recording sheet of any occurrences (pressure dropping or having to stop the session early etc…) as well as names, pressure and timings
• Once the session has finished, and you have followed all instructions to end the session, welcome the occupants back and offer help to anyone that may require it
• Begin the cleaning process, following the instructions provided and prepare for the next session inside the chamber
• You will also be required to record anyone using the using an Oxygen Concentrator, using the daily sheet provided
• You may be required to help out with other light Volunteering duties around the Centre, where you can.
