We have two of the biggest UK volunteering events coming up: The Big Help Out and Volunteers Week.
Volunteers Week
Volunteers week this year will be on Monday 3rd to Sunday 9th June, this has changed this year (previously 1-7th June) and will continue to start on the first Monday in June from now on. This year is a big one as it celebrates its 40th anniversary!
We are currently planning for this and will be organising some organisations meetings to discuss what we can do together. Please if you have any ideas on what you would like to happen during this week, do get in touch asap to see if we can help. Or if you already have plans, we can help share any good news or support you if needed.
The Big help out
The Big Help out launched for the first time in 2023 as part of The King’s Coronation, the idea if to bring the nation together through volunteering. The first campaign (2023) saw over 7 million people lend a hand in their local communities. For 2024 they are expanding the campaign from one day to a whole weekend (7th to 9th June 2024), as well as it moving to the end of volunteer’s week in June.
The Big Help Out has its own website and app that advertises volunteering opportunities and activities from May to June 2024.
We are currently working with other volunteer centres across the UK to streamline this and be in sync with each other. Last year organisations had to upload their opportunities one by one on the website and then manage any enquiries on it individually, quite a few of us didn’t get involved because it was duplicating our work and time consuming. However, this year, we are in conversations with them about linking volunteer centres websites, so the roles are automatically transferred over and then the enquires are forwarded to each one’s websites (rather than being managed on the big help out website) Horary!
We will be providing some group briefings on The Big Help Out, depending on demand these will ether be faced to face or virtual. If interested, please do let us know your preference.
Currently advertising roles with us? What we do need to know ASAP is if you want us to automatically advertised those roles on the national Big Help Out website? We will only transfer those that have given their permission, anyone who doesn’t can sign up their organisation and upload their roles here:
