One off roles – The Ocean Race!

We’re thrilled to share that volunteer opportunities are now open for The Ocean Race! There are a range of roles available between the 14th and 17th of August.

Information regarding the Race

The Ocean Race Europe 2025 will begin on August 10 in Kiel, Germany, featuring seven mixed-gender teams from 13 nations racing in foiling IMOCAS yachts. The race spans 4,500 nautical miles across five legs, stopping in Portsmouth (England), Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, and finishing in Boka Bay, Montenegro – marking the race’s first appearance in the Adriatic Sea. 

each team includes four sailors (with at least one woman and two nationalities) and an onboard reporter. The fleet includes 11 Vendee Globe 2024-25 skippers and six past Ocean Race winners. 

Opportunities available

Role: General helping volunteers

Happy to volunteer, and don’t mind what role you do on the day? We are looking for volunteers that are available to help out on the day as a “floater” supporting various different roles that may need an extra pair of hands.

Role: Family activities volunteers 

During the events there will be activities provided for children and families to engage them with the events and learning programmes available.

Role: Helly Hansen volunteers

Providing support in the pop up Helly Hansen shop. Volunteer tasks might involve: welcoming guests, providing information, operational tasks around the shop area.

Role: Media centre volunteers

Based inside an office space in Gunwharf Quays, working alongside the media services that are covering the Ocean races.  

Volunteer tasks might involve: Welcoming the media, provide support to the media centre, including assistance with accreditation as well as operational and organisational tasks.

Role: Race cockpit volunteers. 

The Race Cockpit is an on land activity open to the public, it is a physical container that looks and acts like a boat. It was developed in collaboration with the Ocean race organisers and Team Paprec Arkes, and invites visitors to climb aboard as a display and experience object.

Role: Science & learning activities volunteers.

Role: Wisdom the mascot & companion volunteers. 

Wisdom is the Ocean Race mascot (sea bird), we are looking for volunteers to wear the mascot costume and accompany the mascot around. These shifts would switched around so one would be wearing then next volunteer wearing the costume.

Role: Fan Day volunteers. 

August 16th is a dedicated Fan day, where the public have a chance to meet the sailors, learn about the race, and participate in other activities. Volunteer tasks would involve: welcoming guests, supporting public activities during the fan day.
