We’ve got a variety of Christmas volunteering opportunities available, and we’d love for you to be part of the festive fun. From card-making to gift-giving and more, there’s something for everyone to help spread joy across Portsmouth.

Donations of Christmas wrapping items – Opportunity – Hive Portsmouth
We are looking for volunteers who can donate any wrapping paper, gift tags, any extra wrapping decoration items and Sellotape for our Christmas wrapathon. We will be wrapping presents at Cascades over the Christmas period for the volunteering centre.
We are also looking for the front pages of cards to turn into gift tags. Please do not send us the written half of the card.
One Off Role – Care Home Christmas Cards Appeal 2025! – Opportunity – Hive Portsmouth
This festive season, we’re inviting our wonderful community to help bring joy to care home residents across the city by writing Christmas cards. Many of these residents receive few, if any, cards—your kind gesture could make a world of difference and brighten their holidays.
Whether you’re crafty or just love writing heartfelt messages, everyone is welcome to take part. Just register your interest and we’ll keep you updated with current requests via email.
One Off Role – Christmas Crafts/decorations for Care Homes! – Opportunity – Hive Portsmouth
We’re calling on our amazing local crafters to help decorate care homes in Portsmouth for the festive season. Whether you’re a seasoned crafter or just love getting creative, we’d love your help in making handmade decorations to brighten up shared spaces.
You can use any materials you like—let your creativity lead the way! We’re especially looking for decorations to place on tables and to hang in windows and from ceilings in the common rooms.
One Off Opportunity – Christmas Care Home Gifts – Opportunity – Hive Portsmouth
This Christmas, we’re asking our amazing community to help make the season brighter for care home residents who may not have family or friends to celebrate with. We’ve been given details of a few individuals—both men and women—who are unlikely to receive any gifts this year.
If you’re able to donate a gift, we’ll make sure it reaches one of these residents and brings a smile to their face. Your kindness will mean the world to them.
Christmas Donation Appeal 2025! – Opportunity – Hive Portsmouth
Let’s come together to support a local family this Christmas.
We’re calling on the Portsmouth community to donate items for a family supported by Home-Start throughout the year. Your generosity can help make their festive season truly special.
We kindly ask for new items only—while we’re big fans of recycling at Home-Start HQ, a brand-new gift can feel extra special!
Please avoid donating alcohol, pork, nuts, or perishable items. (You’ll find a full list of suitable donations below.)
Donations can be dropped off on December 1st at The Hive Portsmouth (inside Portsmouth Central Library).
Christmas Appeal – Gifts for children’s hospital ward – Opportunity – Hive Portsmouth
We are collecting Christmas gifts (unwrapped) for those in hospital on behalf of Sophies Legacy charity. For example:
- Fidget toys
- Arts/crafts/colouring pens & pencils
- Teenage presents; amazon vouchers, diamond art, adult colouring books, older craft activities etc
- playdoh
- water painting
- Lego
- Paint
- Light up toys
- Peppa Pig items (puzzles, sets, toys)
- Spiderman items (puzzles, sets, toys)
- Uno / card games
- Toiletry/smelly sets for men & women
- Pyjamas for adults & children
- Underwear for adults & children
Christmas Appeal – Advent Calendars for children’s hospital ward – Opportunity – Hive Portsmouth
We are collecting Christmas advent calendars on behalf of Sophies Legacy charity.
They can be chocolate / sweet / free from / activity calendars (fidget toys/ books etc)
All donations need to be dropped off to us at Portsmouth Central Library by Friday 14th November.
One off – Christmas Party Helper at Connors Toy Library – 9th December Connors Toy Library
Connors Toy Library supports families with children with additional needs to access the toy library to borrow specialist toys and resources to support their child’s learning and development. Families can access toy library sessions, a safe and enjoyable place for families to meet, make new friends, gain peer support, borrow toys and resources and bring their children together to play. There is also a mobile toy library and outreach project.
One off – Christmas Gift Market Volunteers! – 6th December Havelock Community Centre
We’re looking for three enthusiastic volunteers to help make our Christmas Gift Market a warm and welcoming experience for everyone in the community!
Join us in supporting the Centre Manager with tasks such as:
- Setting up and packing down tables
- Greeting visitors and guiding them through the event spaces
- Helping manage the queue for our special guest – Father Christmas!
- Assisting in our pop-up café by keeping tables tidy

One off – Christmas Party Volunteers – 15th December! Havelock Community Centre
We’re inviting 2–3 friendly volunteers to help us bring festive joy to our centre users at the annual Havelock’s Christmas Party!
This heartwarming event is all about celebrating togetherness, and we’d love your support in creating a welcoming and cheerful atmosphere. Volunteers will work alongside the Centre Manager and our amazing team to help with:
- Setting up and supporting a gift swap for attendees
- Assisting with the buffet and drinks area
- Encouraging fun and laughter through party games
- Joining in or helping coordinate Christmas carols
- Making sure everyone feels included and cared for throughout the afternoon
One off role – Christmas Choirs Needed! Portsmouth Hospitals Charity
We’re inviting local choirs to help spread joy and festive spirit to patients this holiday season. While the exact dates and times are still being finalized, we’re looking for enthusiastic groups who are passionate about lifting hearts through music.

One off role – Wrapping volunteers needed at Christmas! Together in the Hive Portsmouth
We’ve been given a fantastic opportunity to fundraise this December by offering a gift wrapping service at Cascades Shopping Centre!
We’re looking for friendly volunteers to help wrap presents in exchange for small donations, with all proceeds going toward supporting volunteering across the city.
We did this for the first time last year and it was a huge success! It’s a fun, festive way to spread holiday cheer, meet new people, and make a real difference in your community.
