Christmas Sophie’s legacy

10 December 2024

Sophie’s Legacy was created in memory of Sophie Fairall, a remarkable young girl who touched many lives. Sophie was diagnosed with a rare form of childhood cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma in September 2020, shortly after her 9th birthday. Despite enduring intense chemotherapy and radiotherapy, Sophie relapsed and sadly passed away in September 2021 at the age of 10.

This past Christmas, volunteers from across the community came together to support Sophie’s Legacy and bring joy to children and families spending the holidays in hospitals. The 2024 Christmas Appeal saw an overwhelming response, with generous donations pouring in to honor the memory of Sophie Fairall.

Advent Calendars: Volunteers donated 18 advent calendars, which meant that lots of children were able to experience the magic of counting down to Christmas.

Christmas Gifts: 376 gifts were collected and distributed to hospital wards, brightening the days of young patients and their families. These special presents brought smiles and a sense of normalcy to those facing challenging times.

The dedication and kindness of the volunteers made a significant impact, helping to fulfill Sophie’s wish of improving the hospital experience for children and their families. Their efforts ensured that the spirit of Christmas was felt even in the most difficult circumstances.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to Sophie’s Legacy Christmas 2024. Your generosity and compassion have made a world of difference.
