Volunteers week is quickly approaching (1st -7th June) and the Portsmouth Together team will be busy that week supporting a number of activities. This includes the Portsmouth Volunteers Fair at Cascades on Friday 2nd June (hope to see you there) and the Portsmouth Inspiring Volunteer Awards celebration event on 6th June.
We were therefore really pleased that the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Cllr. David Fuller, kindly invited the Portsmouth Together Volunteers to afternoon tea to celebrate volunteers week early and to thank them for all that they have done to promote and increase volunteering across Portsmouth.
The team had a guided tour of the Portsmouth historic silver, dating back hundreds of years, in The Portsmouth Guildhall. The team then met the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress in the Lords Mayors Palour. The Lord Mayor spoke of how one of his first roles last year was signing the 2016 Portsmouth Inspiring Volunteer Awards and one of his last is thanking our brilliant volunteers.
The Lord Mayor spoke of the huge number of volunteers that he had meet visiting the many charities and community groups around Portsmouth during his term of office, and recognised how invaluable peoples willingness to volunteer makes such a huge difference across Portsmouth. Over the year that Lord Mayor has used his afternoon tea events to personally thank the many who willingly give their time freely to help others.
We finished with team photos, and with a number of the team wearing our new branded polo shirts that we will be sporting as we extend our outreach work over the coming 12 months
If you are interested in volunteering but don’t know where to start then come and speak t0 one of our volunteer advisors at our volunteering drop in sessions at Portsmouth Central library on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 11am and 2pm, or contact us to arrange an appointment.
