Vaccine Community Champion

Community Champions are part of an exciting new way of helping the NHS and Portsmouth City Council communicate about the vaccine and dispel myths.

If you would like to be part of making a difference and could answer yes to any of the questions below, we would like to hear from you.

Do you have good social networks?  Or have an active voice in the community you live in. If yes could you link in with them and provide information on the Vaccination Programme and testing guidance?

Do you have an interest in communication, health, and care? Could you share accurate messages about the vaccine, testing and how to stay safe?

 Role of the Champion -

1. Share trusted messages about the vaccine and testing with key groups and communities

2. Share facts about the vaccine that address misinformation

3. Help develop local targeted communications if necessary

4. Provide information on the Vaccination Programme and testing guidance

5. Pick up on any concerns or problems and feed these back to Portsmouth City Council who will share with the NHS if appropriate to try and resolve

There are lots of methods you could use to help raise awareness of the COVID-19 vaccine. Here are some ideas to get you going in your Community Champions role:

  • Join local community and COVID-19 Mutual Aid Facebook Groups to post and share information on the vaccine;
  • Clarify any misinformation you see about the vaccine;
  • Attend virtual forums and meetings to share updates and answer questions on the vaccine;
  • Dispel common myths about the vaccine. (But be careful not to engage with anti-vaxxers);
  • Send out communications materials on the vaccine via email and/or via social media;
  • Ask local magazines and newspapers to circulate information on the vaccine;
  • Produce videos for social media on the vaccine explaining how the vaccine is being delivered;
  • Link in with local voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations in your area to raise awareness of the vaccine (such as parish councils,

sports/faith or interests groups);

  • Link in with the Chair of your local Patient Participation Group, via your local GP Practice Manager.
