Personal Choice is a project for the community, and we recognise that the community in Portsmouth, particularly the Charles Dickens ward need more accessible information, advice, support and opportunities for social integration to address the problems of economic and social deprivation and improve their independence and wellbeing. We also aim to support older people in the years preceding retirement to address issues that could lead to poverty and isolation in later years. We aim to offer a holistic service with a person-centred approach offering time to discuss issues, explore avenues and provide the information, advice and support they need to make their own decisions.
About the role: Personal Choice is looking for a volunteer scheduler to take on the project of scheduling 2 programmes, which includes speakers and activities etc for 2 social groups. Welcome Club runs Monday 10:30-12:30, Wednesday Club runs Wednesday 10:30-12:30, with the attendees aged over 50, and capacity between 8-15 people in each group. This role has the potential to be innovative, exciting and rewarding. The groups really enjoy learning, hearing about new or different subject areas, and doing activities, games etc and trips out. There is a lot of scope to put together a dynamic programme which runs quarterly. The scheduler would also be responsible for welcoming the groups, introducing speakers and being a presence.
For this role we are asking for a 6 month commitment, which would see two full quarterly programmes for each group. As the scheduler you would provide the meet and greet for each group (Monday 10:30-12:30 and Wednesday 10:30-12:30). Once the group is settled, you could use the time (unless you have a speaker in or need to facilitate the session) to continue scheduling the programme. We are looking for 4 hours a week commitment over 6 months.
• Those who enjoy starting and completing a project • Those who are able to take a lead on a project and make it their own • People who would like to volunteer for a local charity and give back to the local community • Those wanting to work in an adult social care environment.
