Boathouse 4, an iconic building within the Historic Dockyard constructed during the massive 1930’s rearmament period, is open to the public as a historic boat restoration centre and exhibition. The boathouse has many original features and operational gantry cranes. There is always something to see! The Dockyard’s most unique attraction is FREE to enter and showcases wooden boats of all shapes and sizes including many operational historic craft.
What is the role?
Do you enjoy painting or graining, enabling us to creating beautiful pieces or artwork that people would buy? Would you like to help make ships badges so we can sell them to raise funds that enable us to look after the historic boats in our care? Then join our small team of volunteers who are dedicated to creating ships’ badges within the historic setting of Boathouse 4.
We need your skills:
- Painting the fronts of the ships’ badges, ranging from block painting to intricate detail
- Cutting, sanding and staining/graining the wooden backing for the ships’ badges
- Gluing the badges onto felt and cutting them out
- Screwing on the hangers to the back
- Create a finished product that members of the public would want to purchase
The benefits:
- Interpersonal skills

- Resilience
