Governor vacancies with The Thinking Schools Academy Trust

The Thinking Schools Academy Trust (TSAT) is a Multi Academy Trust working with 17 Schools in Portsmouth and Medway/Kent. The Trust is currently looking to appoint Trustees to the Fratton Regional Governing Body (RGB) working with a cluster of schools in Portsmouth. Members of the RGB need the specialist knowledge and skills to hold to account the Head of Education. We would be particularly keen to hear from individuals who have skills in the areas of legal/compliance. TSAT is also seeking a member of the local community to join the school advisory board of Meon Junior School. Being a Regional Governing Board member or Advisory Board member is a challenging but hugely rewarding role. It will give you the chance to make a real difference to children and young people, give something back to your local community and use and develop your skills in a board-level environment. As an Advisory Board member you will be able to: • Use your own experience of education and life beyond school to inform conversations • Develop and utilise your skills in a board-level environment • Make a valuable contribution to education and your community • Support and challenge the school so that it improves for pupils and staff • Bring your unique experiences, perspectives and insights in to decision-making in the interests of the school community The Regional Governing Body are a committee of skills based governors who sit above the individual school’s Academy Advisory Board. They are responsible for: • The day to day oversight of the running of the regional academies; • Holding local academy leadership to account for school academic perormance, quality of care and provision; • Overseeing and monitoring the effectiveness of local strategies; For an informal conversation please contact Kelly Denton, Head of Governance and Compliance at

Anyone aged over 18 can be a governor and you do not need to be a parent. There is no requirement for you to have an understanding of the education system, just the necessary skills, character and time to contribute. There is plenty of training available to help you learn about education. Above all we are currently looking for individuals who have a passion for improving the life chances of students. It would be advantageous if you had professional knowledge in any of these areas but it is not essential; education, finance, human resources, legal, data analysis, marketing and public relations, safeguarding, risk management, property and estates management and organisational change. It is also important that you have time to commit to the role. School governors typically attend 4 meetings per year, as well as making 2 school visits and having background reading and training.
