Undertake a weekly 1 – 2 hour visit to a Good Neighbours service user or provide a weekly telephone call.
Ensure regular contact is maintained with the Good Neighbours staff team, alerting them to any cause for concern regarding the service user/s they are visiting and/or telephoning.
Ensure that the Good Neighbours staff team and service user/s is made aware of occasions when it is not possible for a visit or telephone call to take place, i.e holiday, sickness, so that adequate cover can be arranged as required.
On occasions it may be suitable to act as an advocate for the service user, at their request and/or agreement, or to request for the Good Neighbours staff team to do so, signposting to or working with appropriate agencies where the service user is experiencing difficulties that could affect their independence.
Attend regular training sessions provided by the Good Neighbours staff team where possible.
- Where appropriate the volunteer befriender may be willing to undertake low level household tasks to assist the service user, for instance form filling, changing light bulbs or posting letters. This assistance will be on a voluntary basis and is not part of the commissioned service.
If you would be happy to visit a client who smokes, please could you inform us when you make contact as it can be particularly hard to find volunteers for our smoking clients.
