Events Volunteer

What is the role? 

To provide assistance for the events programme in Victoria Park. This can include roles such as helping with events organisation and set up, stewarding and data collection. This will be an Ad-Hoc position to assist as and when events are run in the park. The role does not require a regular commitment and volunteers can help as frequently as they want.

About the Project: 

Victoria Park, known as 'the People's Park' was opened in 1878 as a free open space in the heart of the new city centre. Once again green spaces are acknowledged as important for people's health and wellbeing and also play an important part of the environment: conserving the biodiversity of the flora and fauna in an urban setting and mitigating the effects of climate change within the City of Portsmouth. The reviving Victoria Park project is organised around the following themes:

·     Heritage - uncovering the park's history and restoring its historical features. Our plans will be in keeping with the heritage of the park and blend well with the existing environment.

·     Inclusive - understanding what facilities and activities would encourage a more diverse range of people to use the park, including those who live locally, while keeping regular visitors.

·     Wellbeing - planning for the things that add to quality of life like physical wellness, strong mental health, happiness, connection with other people and a sense of community.

·     Sustainability - ensuring the changes we make will be long-lasting and have a positive (or neutral) effect on the park's nature and the environment.

·     Learning - exploring interesting ways for people to learn from their experience in the park. 

Skills

The post is open to anyone with an interest in events or community work.  

Minimum Age Requirement: 16 years

Self-motivated.

Ad-hoc as and when events are running in the park.
