Cumberland House Natural History Museum Volunteer

Cumberland House Natural History Museum is one of Portsmouth City Council's attractions, popular with visitors and local residents alike.

From our permanent displays to our year-round calendar of events, there’s much to see and do, giving volunteers plenty of chance to get involved with the day to day activities.

We're looking for a small team of volunteers to help in the following ways.

• Providing information to visitors about exhibits and displays

• Supporting staff with group and school visits

• Assisting staff with the set up and take down of events and activities

• Patrolling and checking the museum and the grounds

Please note - this role involves working in an environment where there are live butterflies and an enclosed bee hive.

Skills

Mostly, we are looking for individuals with

• Enthusiasm and commitment for the role

• An interest in natural world and sciences

• Ability to convey information about the exhibits in a way relevant to a variety of visitors

• A friendly disposition and ability to relate to a variety of visitors

• A willingness to help out with events and activities for visitors (especially families with young children)

• Ability to work unsupervised following relevant guidance

You will need a certain level of fitness to be on your feet and a good level of communication to interact with visitors.
